STATESBORO, Ga. - Junior point guard Willie Powers III was chosen to the Southern Conference preseason All-conference team Thursday from a ballot of the 12 head men's basketball coaches. Powers averaged 14.5 points and 3.6 assists per game in abbreviated play due to a knee injury last season. College of Charleston, Western Carolina and Wofford had two selections each with the Cougars' Andrew Goudelock named Preseason Player of the Year based on the highest point total. Tony White, Jr. was the second Cougar representative on the list. Western Carolina had two picks while Brandon Giles and Harouna Mutombo and Noah Dahlman and Junior Salters were named for Wofford. Kellen Brand of Appalachian State and The Citadel's Cameron Well's filled out the list.

The Southern Conference also released today the predicted order of finish in the league as voted upon by the SoCon Coaches. College of Charleston topped the list in the South Division with eight first-place votes and Western Carolina earned 10 first-place tallies for the top spot in the North Division. The number-two ranking in each of the divisions was by a difference of nine points with Wofford (South Division) and Appalachian State (North Division) earning three and two first-place votes, respectively.
